When I left school at 16 in 1977 I joined my father hand carving and engraving lettering on a freelance basis for Monumental Masons throughout Herefordshire. I learnt the trade over the next few years under his guidance which he had been carrying out since 1947 after he left school.
After learning the trade for 7 years I thought I would like to start my own business and in 1984 opened my workshop in Rockfield Road. My wife, Lyn, works in the office. Our Son, Adam, joined us 17 years ago and will be taking over the business when Nick retires. Adam is the 3rd generation of the family working in the industry in Herefordshire.
As we are a local, independent family business with premises in Hereford we can give a personal service and knowledge of memorials suitable in Herefordshire. Families can call in with any queries, or problems, knowing that because we are in Hereford, they can call in, or telephone and we will deal with their enquiries as this is our sole business. With all Nick’s and Adam’s experience over the years, they know exactly what needs to be done.
We feel proud when a memorial is fitted in the churchyard or cemetery, especially if someone has requested something special to them. It is lovely to get letters or cards from customers saying how pleased they are with the memorials and it is just as they wanted as we are aware of how important it is to them. A lasting tribute to their loved ones.
